ALLIANCE Health Eagles Women secured safe passage into the women’s Twenty20 Cup final courtesy of a nine-wicket victory over rivals Mountaineers at Old Hararians Sports Club on Wednesday.

It was a day of extraordinary cricket as Eagles’ seamer Esther Mbofana almost single-handedly dismantled the Mountaineers’ batting line-up.

Her match-winning figures of seven for one saw Mountaineers skittled out for a paltry 14 runs inside the opening six overs.

The only run the Eagles’ bowler conceded came from a wide during her spellbinding three overs.

Mbofana’s opening partner Mitchell Mavunga finished with two for 13 during her three overs (3.2).

None of the Mountaineers’ batters managed to make double figures, as they finished their innings with eight ducks and a top score of nine from Nyasha Gwanzura.

Eagles, who lost the toss and were forced to field, were swift in their reply and raced to 15 for the loss of one wicket.

The only wicket to fall was that of opener Beloved Biza, bowled out for two by Audrey Mazvishaya, while the pair of skipper Modester Mupachikwa and Kellies Ndlovu finished unbeaten on seven and two, respectively.

Mountaineers can, however, find solace in the fact that they had already secured their spot in the final, although they now face the daunting task of meeting the same side that humiliated them during their last game of the round-robin phase of the competition.

The two sides have a very short turnover before they meet again in Thursday’s final.
