BULAWAYO headquartered gold mining company Duration Gold Limited says it is making progress in paying its outstanding payments to various entities, including the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra).

Duration Gold operates several mining concerns, namely: Gaika in Kwekwe, Athens in Mvuma, Royal Family in Filabusi, and the flagship Vubachikwe Mine in Gwanda.

Vubachikwe is currently under care and maintenance.

Duration Gold spokesperson Mr Robert Mukondiwa said reports indicating that the company owed “ridiculous figures” were not true.

“We cannot pre-empt the exercise that is currently running between us and Zimra.

“The current balance we owe is being discussed with Zimra regarding what our Forbes and Thompson Vubachikwe operation owes.

“However, it is nowhere near the ridiculous figures that were being peddled by mischievous platforms in the pockets of dodgy entities.”

This comes as an entity, apparently based in South Africa, going by the name Forfar Forensics claimed that Duration Gold had statutory obligations running into millions of United States dollars.

Added Mr Mukondiwa:

“We are happy with the process we have ongoing with Zimra, which has been very helpful. And as soon as that process is done, we shall release the figures to interested parties, including shareholders and certainly the media.”

The Vubachikwe Mine faced challenges following the staging of an illegal violent strike, which resulted in the destruction of property worth millions of dollars.

The illegal strike was over a back-pay dispute with the previous workers’ union.

The group says it has been diligently meeting with creditors to find a way forward, with a view to resume operations.
