The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has raised concern over the surge in murder cases around the country.

To this extent, police have urged members of the public to resolve disputes amicably.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said in one of the recent cases, police in Chivi arrested Laurey Tafirei (25), who stabbed his wife’s boyfriend (36), after seeing a love message on his spouse’s cellphone.

In a separate case, on October 12, 2021 police in Esigodini arrested Tichaona Moyo (24) for murder.

“The suspect together with his accomplice, Philbert Nyoni (28), who is still at large, attacked the victim Thabisa Majange (16) after they had allegedly mistaken him to be Madlenkosi Sibanda (33) whom they had an argument with earlier,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

“ZRP urges members of the public to resolve their disputes amicably and involve third parties where necessary.”

National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) Commissioner, Advocate Obert Gutu, said the NPRC is ready to assist families to manage disputes through peaceful ways.

“As the NPRC, we are mandated, in terms of Section 252 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, to get involved in any and in fact, in all peace-building initiatives in the country,” said the NPRC in a statement.

“Where there are disputes and conflicts, even within families, people are always free to approach us and also to lodge formal complaints so that we can do our best to deploy our technocrats and other relevant experts to investigate and try to peacefully resolve such conflicts and disputes.”
