CHURCHES have applauded President Mnangagwa for preaching peace, and putting in place measures to ensure that it prevails in the upcoming by-elections.

The remarks were made at a prayer meeting organised by the Destiny of Afrika Network (DANeT) in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Indigenous Council of Churches.

Speaking at the meeting in Marondera on Thursday, ZICC Mashonaland East chairperson, Madzibaba Echoes Chiore, said the commitment to peace by President Mnangagwa cannot be over-emphasised.

“We applaud President Mnangagwa for preaching and preserving peace, which he said was the foundation of development and the cornerstone of success and prosperity.

“The church comes in handy in restoring good moral values as it preaches peace, love, and unity, thereby complementing what our President is saying, that peace is the way to go,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe said churches play critical roles in the socio-economic and political stability of the country.

“We want to thank you, church leaders, for this initiative of preaching peace and praying for the economy of our nation, churches play a pivotal role, especially in the socio-economic and political stability of the country,” he said.
