TRADITIONAL chiefs received 3 000 kilogrammes of newly-developed biofortified orange maize hybrid seed from Mukushi Seeds on Thursday, in a development aimed at encouraging the adoption of nutrient rich foods.
According to the company, the biofortified orange pro-vitamin A maize seed provides nutritionally enhanced grain for both human and livestock consumption.
Mukushi Seeds donated 3 000kg of its newly-developed biofortified orange maize hybrid seed to the Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs (ZCC).
The seed was received by ZCC president, Chief Fortune Charumbira.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Harare, Mukushi Seeds managing director, Dr John MacRobert said:
“As a seed supplier committed to research, it is incumbent on us and our partners to provide farmers with hybrid seeds that enhance nutrition for both humans and livestock.”
ZCC president, Chief Charumbira hailed the gesture by the company.
“Your initiative resonates well with Government’s initiative that aims at uplifting people from the household level, through improvement of nutrition,” he said.
