THEY may have been slow off the blocks in terms of preparations for the resumption of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League but giants CAPS United have stepped up the pace by signing veteran Devon Chafa on Wednesday.

The much-travelled defensive midfielder, who rejoins CAPS from Ngezi Platinum Stars, inked a two-year deal.

The Premiership season resumes on February 12.

Chafa also arrives as a free agent after his contract with Ngezi expired on December 31, 2021.

A seven-time Premiership championship winner with Dynamos, CAPS United and FC Platinum, the gritty midfielder has also seen duty in the Zambian top-flight with Buildcon, who he joined in 2018.

After a brief stay in Zambia, he joined champions FC Platinum in July 2018, winning back-to-back championships with the Zvishavane side.

The titles made him the most decorated Premiership player in the land.

At the start of 2020, he moved to Ngezi Platinum Stars but could only settle for two silver medals in the Chibuku Super Cup, as his side lost to Highlanders in the 2019 final and to FC Platinum in the 2021 edition.

The 31-year-old has also seen Premiership duty with Black Rhinos and now-defunct clubs Kiglon, Eagles and How Mine.

After spending two years in Mhondoro, he has reunited with coach Lloyd Chitembwe, under whom he won the 2016 championship title at CAPS United.

He will also link up with two-time Soccer Star of the Year winner Rodwell Chinyengetere, who joined Makepekepe from FC Platinum last week.

Former Harare City midfielder William Manondo is also one of the latest acquisitions.

CAPS United have also retained veteran forward Clive Augusto, while defender Dennis Dauda is on the verge of inking a deal with them following his return from India.
