Caledonia, a populous settlement that is located 17 kilometres east of Harare, might be moving closer to regularisation following a recent crucial indaba between residents and a Government-appointed caretaker local authority.

The authority is made up of representatives from the Goromonzi, Ruwa, Harare and Chitungwiza councils.

The settlement currently has no roads, electricity, water, sewer, clinics, schools and other basic social amenities.

Mr Andrew Madzivadondo, spokesperson of the Caledonia Residents Association Trust (CRAT), said the recently held discussions were fruitful.

“Representatives of housing cooperatives, church organisations and residents’ associations recently met the caretaker council. Our Resident Minster, Cde Apollonia Munzverengwi, was also present. We had fruitful discussions,” Mr Madzivadondo said.

“As residents, we know who to approach if we have any queries. The caretaker council made it clear that the illegal parcelling of land and any other disorderly conducts are no longer going to be tolerated.”
