VILLAGERS in Mhondoro, under Chief Chivero, could not hide their joy after receiving food hampers from a local mining company on Boxing Day.

The food hampers had an assortment of basic commodities including cooking oil, sugar, beans, flour, soap, and other goodies.

The mining firm – Bravura Holdings – delivered the hampers to thousands of people from more than 30 different villages as a belated Christmas gift.

Bravura specializes in platinum mining.

Chief Chivero, born Brown Shopo, said they were very grateful for the late Christmas present for his people.

“What they have done is a noble thing, and a way of appeasing our spirit mediums in the area as well. They have brought smiles to the elderly, orphans and the less privileged,” he said.

He also said the villagers were very happy that the company was employing local youths in their area.

One of the villagers, Mr Mike Koso said the food hampers came at the right time.

“At least children have something to eat during this festive season, we appreciate,” he said.

The company’s public sector liason officer, Ms Vickie Maponga-Mlilo, said it was their wish to deliver the goods before Christmas, but could not because of logistical issues.

“We still have the new year, and I hope you will enjoy yourselves with these little gifts from our management.

“As an organisation that maintains strong personal ties with so many community members and organisations throughout the continent, we care deeply about the welfare of every individual who lives in our areas of operations. We are proud to stand by you as the community,” she said.

“We always want to thank the chief for the hospitality that they always give us in return, and making sure we work peacefully in his environment, ” she said.

She also promised that the company will continue to employ people from the village according to their skills.

Bravura started operating in Zimbabwe in 2019, with its main operation in Selous, in Mashonaland West province.
