NEW: Another opportunity for Chiwandire

PROMINENT female boxer Kudakwashe Chiwandire has been given a chance to reclaim an international belt, months after relinquishing the World Boxing Council Interim super bantamweight title.

Chiwandire’s handlers, Deltaforce Boxing, have inked a deal that will see the talented boxer challenging 28-year-old Urvashi Singh (10-3-0) of India for the WBC International title on December 15.

The fight will take place at Malvern Town Hall in Australia’s state of Victoria.

MJA Entertainment, in conjunction with DJMC Events, are promoting the fight.

Chiwandire relinquished the WBC Interim title the moment she stepped into the ring to face Yamileth Mercado of Mexico for the coveted WBC gold belt in March.

She lost the match via a unanimous decision.

However, the Zimbabwean star boxer has been given a fresh opportunity to lay her hands on an international belt.

“This (fight against Singh) presents yet another opportunity for the Zimbabwean flag to fly high on the global stage, and we take this opportunity to invite sponsors and well-wishers to come and support this championship campaign,” said Clyde Musonda, Deltaforce Boxing and MMA Academy’s chief executive officer.

“Chief amongst our concerns is that the Australian promoters have outlined that they will pay for the travelling and accommodation expenses for the boxer and one trainer only.

“This development leaves us at a great disadvantage, as the WBC allows a team of three to be in the fighter’s corner and thus we will be severely understaffed in the corner for this high-profile fight.”

The WBC International fight will thrust Chiwandire back on the path to world title contention.

Said Chiwandire: “It’s an opportunity that I am grabbing with both hands. As usual, I will work hard ahead of the fight so that I will be in the perfect shape to bring the title back home.”
