Brighton Zhawi —
NABA men’s volleyball coach Shadreck Chisoko has hailed the work of backroom staff in preparing his boys for what has been a successful and exhausting season.

Non Academic Bachelors Association (Naba) currently sits at the top of the country’s volleyball circuit; this after clinching both the Harare Volleyball title and most recently the national league title. And Chisoko believes conditioning played a key role in Naba clinching the double.

“It was about team work and also good player depth,” said Naba coach Shadreck Chisoko.

“Previously; we realized we were losing some games because of our poor physical conditioning, and so we decided to address that and started putting in more hours into fitness to the extent of doing road runs after every session,” he said.

Chisoko said once they won the HVA title, they started believing in their chances of clinching the national title.

“We won the HVA title midway through our National League campaign and that boosted our confidence.

“I knew our chances were good at that point,” he said.

Naba edged out rivals Support Unit on a superior set ratio 4.8 against 3.5 after both teams ended tied on 33 points.

Naba captain Danai Mangeya called their remarkable feat ‘amazing’.

“It is a special feeling, it’s really amazing wining a double it is not an easy feat probably the best in our history,” said Mangeya.

“There was great team chemistry amongst the guys,” he said.

Naba now shifts attention to the Zone IV Club Championships running from December 10-17 in Swakopmund, in Namibia.Chisoko said preparations for the regional competition are going on well.

“We have beefed up our squad with players like Coleen Peters and Tafadzwa Keni.

“We are training every day and the team is working hard as we want to give it our best in Namibia,” Chisoko said.

Naba has made two appearances at the Zone IV Championships reaching the quarter finals in their first appearance in Mozambique. Unfortunately, they bowed out during the first round, during last year’s games in Swaziland.
