Swedish Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Lars Ronnas’ chauffeur was recently picked up by police for questioning in connection with an unsolved murder case.

Mr Shepherd Mzemba was, however, released a day later after being cleared of any wrongdoing.

Two suspects allegedly linked to the crime have now been arrested and face murder charges.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the case, but declined commenting further “because it is now before the courts”.

Investigators told The Sunday Mail that Mr Mzemba attended the murder victim’s funeral wake in Ruwa on September 30.

He then allegedly made suspicious remarks, prompting mourners to call police.

“He was picked up by police after the deceased’s relatives said he had made a lot of different statements concerning the matter,” said a Criminal Investigations Department officer.

“He was, however, released after we established he was not involved in the murder. The suspects have since been arrested and investigations are progressing.”
