Is there such a thing as destiny? Are our lives predetermined? Has God already seen where we will end up?

Evangelist Ralph Mupa, in his book “How to Have a Fulfilling Life”, delves into this matter by seeking to explain God’s plan for humanity.

Much of the book is based on the Bible.

Mupa says it is God’s plan for people to live a happy and fruitful life, hinging this statement on Jeremiah 29:11.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” the verse reads.

He notes that many people see things otherwise, and base their life choices on another Bible verse, Job 14:1 which says, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.”

It is such seemingly contradictory verses that Mupa attempts to untangle so as to help people have a better understanding of God’s plan for their lives.

Some of the things he talks about include how to discover God’s plan, prophesying one’s destiny, praying for the future and educating oneself in preparation for what is to come, among other things.

Despite the small size of the book, the information inside can make a significant contribution towards understanding of what the Bible says about living a happy and prosperous life.

Mupa says the reason why some people live lives full of misery is that they chose to follow their own path rather than the one God sees best for them.

“The main reason behind distress, chaos and lack of fulfilment in our lives as it may, is the pursuit of what we want, not what He wants,” Mupa asserts.

He gives examples of Bible characters who followed the map the Lord laid out for them and how they prospered as a result.

“Elijah the prophet had a life of continuous overflow of provision because he lived in God’s vision for his life and desire was connected to God who had a blueprint of where his provision was.

“Uzziah as well had a concrete revelation about his life because he continuously enquired of the Lord concerning his life.”

In another chapter, Mupa says that while God already has a plan for us, it is necessary to pray for these plans to come to pass.

With the Devil out to destroy people and derail God’s plans, prayer provides the shield to protect individuals from the grasp of the enemy.

When I finished reading “How to Have a Fulfilling Life”, I felt challenged to explore the Bible further on my own to gain a better understanding of what the writer was talking about.

Although I cannot classify it as an exceptional piece of literature, it is still worth reading.
