More Wisdom for Mutasa

MOST of the calls he has made this season are questionable but Lloyd Mutasa was spot on when he predicted, in January, that his son Wisdom would rediscover himself under Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe.

“I know what Lloyd (Chitembwe) is like in terms of his strictness and I believe Wizzy (Wisdom) is better off in his hands.

“Being his father might probably be the reason it didn’t work out so I am sure with someone like Chitembwe, my son will straighten up,” Mutasa told The Sunday Mail Sport back in January when Wisdom departed Dynamos.

Wisdom did not make a flying start at Makepekepe but eight months on, his father’s “prophecy” seems to be coming to pass.

The 23-year-old midfielder has started in Caps United’s last three league games – two wins against Nichrut and Chicken Inn plus a 1-1 draw against Shabanie Mine – and his performances have left the usually difficult-to-please Chitembwe purring.

Chitembwe is confident Mutasa will shine again in a Chibuku Super Cup journey that begins with a tricky first round clash against ZPC Kariba at the National Sports this afternoon.

ZPC Kariba knocked out Makepekepe in the first round of the 2015 edition and are confident of repeating that feat.

Makepekepe have never progressed beyond the quarter-final stage of the country’s biggest knockout tournament since its inception in 2014.

Chitembwe wants his men to do better this year.

“Obviously we need to do better in the Chibuku Super Cup and its good to have the likes of Wisdom (Mutasa) in the form they are in today,” he said.

“You see, the young lad (Mutasa) is very coachable, he takes instructions positively where other players would take them negatively.

“He has been patient, he has waited for his time and I think his time has come. Wisdom is a very special talent, a top player with a very big future at Caps United.” Three years ago, Mutasa was in Slovakia and primed for further explosion at FK Senica, having also captained the national Under 23 side to the 2015 Africa Games.

But a series of events saw his career going off the rails.

Mutasa is now trying to get back to his feet at Makepekepe and the midfielder wants to make the most of the chance handed to him.

“I have endured a painful three years, it hurts to see your peers progressing while you are going down,” said the Caps United man.

“Some of my close friends like Walter Musona and Donovan Bernard have been doing well, we came from the same school of football – Aces Academy – and being at different levels with them shows that I lost my way somehow.

“But I have been given a chance by coach Lloyd, who is a great coach, and l am happy with how my game is developing.

“Caps United are known as the Cup Kings and it’s upon us as players to prove that by winning the Chibuku Super Cup. Besides, winning the Cup comes with a chance to play in Africa.”
