Government will soon establish community information centres in all the country’s districts to take technological convenience closer to communities, a Cabinet minister has said.

Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Supa Mandiwanzira said this during a tour of the Murombedzi community information centre.

“Community information centres benefit many people including school pupils and teachers and they are desperately needed and are relevant in our society,” said Minister Mandiwanzira.

“They bring convenience to communities and schools that do not have the infrastructure.

“Money that is channelled towards technology by Government should benefit the whole country and not just Harare as technology is helpful in various areas such as education,” he said.

Minister Mandiwanzira said three more community information centres are expected to be established in Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland South provinces.

“In Manicaland, a community information centre will be set up in Rusape while in Masvingo it will be established at Gutu-Mupandawana and Maphisa in Matabeleland South,” said Minister Mandiwanzira.

He said his ministry had received support from a Chinese company, Huawei, for the establishment of more communication information centres. Minister Mandiwanzira urged the private sector to support his ministry in establishing more community information centres in the country.

The Murombedzi Community Information Centre has 35 computers and three television sets that are used for gaming activities. It received support for its establishment from the Documentation Support Centre.

Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Deputy Minister Win Mlambo and the Ministry’s permanent secretary, Engineer Sam Kundishora attended the event
