On June 10, Kuwadzana will hold a by-election to fill a vacancy created by the recall of an MDC-T legislator from Parliament. Cde Tinashe Maduza will represent Zanu PF in the by-election. In this instalment, we focus on him to get an insight of his plans for the constituency.

Q: Who is Tinashe Maduza, and can you give us a brief background about your political life?

A: Firstly, I am the chairman of Graceland Housing Co-oporative, and also the chairman of ZimAsset Housing Union which incorporates 15 housing co-operatives. I am also the vice chairman of the Zanu-PF Joshua Nkomo district youth wing and I was born 26 years ago in Chirumhanzu. I have also held several other portfolios within the party.

Q: What has been the urge, which has spurred you to contest in this constituency?

A: For the past 15 years, the MDC-T has been at the helm of the constituency and no meaningful development has come to the area. Service delivery has remained stagnant and that is exactly what prompted me to gun for this seat.

Q: What’s your promise to the people of Kambuzuma in terms of development and general upliftment of lives?

A: The constituency has been lagging behind in the provision of critical social amenities such as water and road rehabilitation, so our thrust is to rectify such anomalies so that we better the lives of the people in the constituency.

There is also a deficiency in the health delivery sector and we are going to strive to make sure that it is accessible to all for free in the area as we have already secured some materials needed to achieve that from our friends.

On the education front, we want to upgrade some schools in this area and make sure that education is accessible for free to the less privileged.

Q: Kambuzuma is very significant in the history of the country, is that in itself not a deterrent factor for you to take on the reigns of a constituency with such a legacy?

A: I have absolutely nothing to fear as the electorate and the leadership of the party are all behind me.

Q: Can you tell us what you seek to achieve in this constituency?

A: We seek to fulfil all our electoral pledges and promote the country’s economic blueprint Zim-Asset through all it facets and also through the promotion of sports and small and micro self-sufficient projects in the constituency.

Q: What’s your prediction to the June 10 by-election?

A: Definitely, we are returning the constituency to His Excellency with a resounding victory.
