RISING star Master H, whose song “Nawanadem” is arguably the current Zimdancehall anthem, has hit a purple patch.

The song, which features hip-hop artiste Voltz JT, garnered a whopping 1,2 million views on YouTube within four weeks of its release.

He has since released another scorcher titled “Longtime”, which is receiving positive rave reviews and making waves on different platforms.

Born Hillary Marufu, Master H, who said he had a difficult upbringing in Chitungwiza, told The Sunday Mail Society that his journey to stardom has been long and hard.

Perseverance, he reckons, has taken him this far.

To date, he has composed 50 songs in a career spanning close to five years, but only two songs have been well-received.

“I have been in this game for five years. The problem was that I could not afford to record my music at reputable studios. It was DJ Fantan who identified my talent and put me in the spotlight,” the Mbare-based artiste said.

Working with DJ Fantan at Chillspot Records turned out to be the much-needed magic wand.

“My first recording with Chillspot was ‘Mjolo’. That song became a hit overnight and this marked my rise,” he said.

The song attracted 270 000 viewers, and the number of subscribers to his page rose from a paltry 750 to 39 000.

Master H had a piece of advice to those struggling to find their mark in music.

“To succeed, one must persevere and work hard. I am now enjoying what I worked for a long time ago.”

For the chanter, releasing singles, as opposed to albums, is proving to be the winning formula.

“I will not record an album with, say, six songs. Instead, I concentrate on one song and then market it,” he added.

In May, the rising musician will travel to the United Kingdom, where he is going to feature at the Zimfest concert.

In the UK, he will share the stage with high-profile artistes such as Killer T, Freeman and Seh Calaz.

“This is clearly my year. It will be my first time to perform in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, I am going to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in Zimdancehall.”
