The long-running land dispute between Marondera Municipality and home-seekers who paid their money seven years ago but were not allocated stands as promised has finally ended, as the local authority has found land for the aggrieved.

In 2015, scores of people were made to deposit varying amounts into council coffers with the promise they would be allocated residential stands in Elmswood, but it later emerged the land belonged to a private developer, Swandev (Pvt) Limited, which was owned by the late Kennedy Muraicho.

That is the resolution that we made as the council,” he said.

The local authority has already refunded those who were no longer interested in the stands.

“Council acknowledges the debt it owes those who deposited money for stands and it will honour its obligation …”
