PEOPLE who were close to Walter Magaya before he became a prophet and founded PHD Ministries claim the man was a staunch Dynamos supporter. They reckon although Prophet Magaya is now the owner of Yadah FC, he still has some love for DeMbare.Brian “Chikara” Kureva, a general dealer in Harare’s downtown who was a close buddy of Magaya back in 2012 told The Sunday Mail about how the clergyman would always talk about the Glamour Boys.

And today, Magaya’s Yadah FC clash against Dynamos at the National Sports  Stadium.“Back then, we were very close to each other. We would do business together and he (Prophet Magaya) was a soccer enthusiast as well,” Kureva said.

“He had a passion for Dynamos and would always highlight areas where he thought the club needed to improve in terms of administration and player development.“The same professionalism he is bringing to Yadah is the same professionalism he argued was needed at Dynamos for the club to grow into a powerhouse financially.”

Another former Magaya associate claims that the prophet once entertained the idea of sponsoring Dynamos.“He toyed with the idea but was frustrated by the club’s elders,” he said.

Prophet Magaya has been on record stating that Yadah FC are not in the top flight league to make up numbers and his confidence seems to have rubbed onto his players.Yadah FC are unbeaten in five matches and they are a point behind log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars who have accumulated 10 points to date.

Yadah FC coach Jairos Tapera, a defender during his playing days in the 1980s, puts more emphasis on the team’s rearguard and last Friday he took the team through systematic defensive drills at the club’s training ground in Prospect, Harare.

“Every coach wants to win against Dynamos. I have great respect for Dynamos and cherish playing against them.“We hope to get the best result on Sunday. After all, we have the support of Prophet Magaya who is always there for us.

“He is away in South Africa but he keeps in touch, he wants to know who is injured and who is doing what,” said Tapera. The former FC Platinum and Shabanie Mine mentor explained his team’s storming start to the season.

“It’s spiritual, there is nothing sinister we do at night or behind closed doors. I have been in football for a long time to know that there is belief in sangomas but here at Yadah we just pray.”
