The Sunday Mail is the official media partner of the “Let’s Help Pretty Xaba Campaign” — an initiative to raise funds for the former “Studio 263” actress who has cancer of the oesophagus and requires urgent surgery.
US$9 800 is needed to remove the cancerous growth in India.
Acting Sunday Mail Editor Mabasa Sasa said: “Ms Xaba brought much joy into all our homes through her acting and the least we can all do is try and bring some relief into her life.”
Actor and arts enthusiast Mr Taonga Mafundikwa, who is leading the campaign, said they turned to India on the advice of local doctors.
“They advised us to either try South Africa or India where there is better equipment. We have received a favourable response from Fortis Hospital in India.
“Their quotation of US$9 800 includes accommodation, nursing care, doctors’ fees, consumables, patient’s food and airport pick-up.
“We will also need to raise money for air tickets for Pretty and the person accompanying her, meaning the amount will have to be more than US$9 800.”
Let’s Help Pretty Xaba Campaign will on Tuesday hold a benefit concert at Book Cafe in Harare.
Pastor and Mai Charamba, Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Progress Chipfumo, Selma and Tendai, Edith WeUtonga, Mafriq, Chikwata 263, Diana Samkange, Philbert Marova, Claire Nyakudyara, Hope Masike and Alfred Nenguwo are among the musicians lined up for the event.
Comedians Michael Kudakwashe, Q the Boss, Edgar Langeveldt and Doc Vikela will also take to the stage while Power FM disc jockey Tendai Chakanyuka and Star FM’s DJ Ash Styles will be on the turntables.
