Learn to show respect all the time

We might have different cultures, norms and values, but we should all respect others, particularly the elderly.

Respect is simply defined as due regard for the feelings, wishes or rights of others.

The dictionary defines respect as an act of giving particular attention, consideration, high or special regard.

The respect you give to the next person should not be determined by their social status or age, but by the need to appreciate and value them.

Nowadays, a lot seems to have changed.

Behaviour that used to be taboo back in the day appears to have been normalised.

Children, for instance, no longer respect their elders.

Instead, they act as they please.

If this is allowed to continue, will we still have a normal society?

Yes, children do have rights but that should not be reason for them not to respect their elders.

People that have respect often achieve a lot in life compared to those that are disrespectful.

Respect is a form of currency that can buy you anything if you know how to use it well.

But is respect that important and what are the consequences of being insolent?

The old adage “respect is not demanded but earned” sums everything up.

For one to be respected, they should act in a way that attracts admiration and equally respect others.

If you are meeting a person for the first time, there is no harm in showing respect.

Do not be disrespectful to another person because he or she is a stranger to you.

We have had incidences of people that have failed their interviews or failed to strike a deal because they lacked respect.

Some people are not in the habit of dressing up to show their worth yet they have senior positions at their workplaces or are wealthy.

Imagine meeting such a person in the street and you fail to show respect then later you discover the same individual sitting in your job interview as one of the panellists.

You do not lose anything by showing respect.

For instance, if you are in a bus, there is no harm in offering your seat to the elderly or a sick person.

Such simple gestures will earn you favours in the long run.

It is high time that we change the way we do things in life.

Respect others so that you will also be respected.

Similarly, you should also have self-respect. Respect gives life.

Most people are not prepared to bless those who look down on them.

Quote of the week: You do not lose anything by showing respect.
