Lady Chevrons coach Gary Brent is confident his charges’ preparations can help them book a place at next year’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Zimbabwe will battle it out with eight other countries for the remaining two spots at the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, which are set to begin next week.

“We have prepared very well for the qualifiers, and the girls are playing some really good cricket.

“In terms of preparations, we are right on track,” said Brent.

The Lady Chevrons have been active since April, a month after Brent’s appointment, as preparations began with the team’s participation at the Tri-series in Namibia.

After the Namibia trip, the team went into a two-week training camp in India and concluded their preparations with a five-match T20 series against a South Africa Emerging side last month.

“I have been exceptionally happy with the preparations, which started all the way back in Namibia.

“It was a good learning curve for me to see how the girls can play under pressure, and then the India training camp was just a phenomenal tour for us.

“Key was learning how to play spin-on spin-friendly wickets in India.

“We then moved to South Africa, which was another very great tour against a very strong side, and the girls played exceptionally well.

“We are very happy with where we are as we go into these qualifiers,” said Brent.

Zimbabwe wrap up their preparations with an ongoing quadrangular series in UAE, where they are currently up against the United States of America, Thailand and UAE in Dubai.

The Lady Chevrons will then move to Abu Dhabi ahead of the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier on September 18.

Zimbabwe are in Group B together with the UAE, Papa New Guinea and Thailand.
