The Kadewere family has set out to re-open the Highfield Youth Academy with Zimbabwean international footballer, Tinotenda and his France-based agent Jihed Taniche, bankrolling the project.
Currently on loan at Ligue 2 side, Le Havre, Kadewere is currently the second highest paid Zimbabwean footballer and earns roughly US$42 000 weekly.
Only Aston Villa midfielder Marvellous Nakamba earns more.
And as part of giving back to his community, the Kadewere family has fully embraced the goal to revive the academy.
This comes after the academy – that was established by their late father, Onias Kadewere in 2002 – closed its doors back in 2017 due to economic challenges.
Speaking to Sunday Mail Online, Pardon Kadewere, who is the manager, said the family is set to reignite their father’s dreams and continue his vision of creating chances for young talent.
“We are happy to be back on our feet, and resuscitate our father’s dream of a vibrant academy. We want to create future stars in football, and have since roped in Tino Kadewere and his France-based agent Jihed Taniche.
“We just want to finish the project that our father started, taking it to the next level with more professional standards and better targets,” said Pardon.
The academy – mainly targeting the youth around the community – will this Saturday conduct trials for a Division Two team at Highfield’s Takashinga grounds.
“We are mainly targeting the youth around the community, but that does not mean we will close the doors for good players from outside the community,” he said.
Prosper Kadewere is the chairman, Gerald Chikowore, the secretary and Prince Kadewere is head coach for the Division Two team.
