FLAMBOYANT sound house, Judgement Yard, has officially shifted their Mad Sundays gig from Red Fox. The respected sound movement is today expected to announce a new home for the popular show that has attracted thousands of reggae-dancehall enthusiasts over the years.

Indications are that the group is most likely to take the show to a CBD uptown venue – The Volt – situated along Samora Machel Avenue.

However, The Volt proprietor Spencer Madziya aka Boss Spencer could neither confirm nor deny this.

“Yes, I’m in the know that the Judgement Yard family is shifting base. I’m not yet sure where they intend to settle though. However, we will be pleased if they join us. We have facilities that match their top standards,” said Boss Spencer.

Judgement Yard Mad Sundays have been part of the Red Fox weekly programme for the past seven years.

The departure of the internationally acclaimed sound house also coincides with renovations that are set to take place at the Red Fox.

Part of the transformation has already begun and the process is expected to be complete by end of August.

Speaking during an interview with The Sunday Mail Leisure last week, turn-table superstar DJ Flevah, real name Tendai Tembo, confirmed the move.

“We ended our romance with Red Fox two weeks ago and we will be taking the Mad Sundays show to a new joint. It’s is more like we are starting afresh, rebranding,” he said.

“The show has been running at Red Fox for the past seven years and we thank elder Robert Zhuwao for giving us the opportunity and privilege to play at the venue. It was indeed a lengthy rewarding and family strengthening period that saw us gather and share good music vibes at this centre (Red Fox).”

Sulu targets families @ Spaceman

Residents of Glen Norah A and surrounding areas are in for a treat today as dendera crooner Suluman “Sulu” Chimbetu performs at Wedza Spaceman in Glen Norah.

Sulu’s songs from the forthcoming project “Katundu”, “It’s Not Necessary” and “Ndiani Arasa Mwana” have long become sing-along tunes.

The gig is one of the many that Sulu and his camp have strategically lined up in the countdown to their new album release date. Sulu is set to release a new project sometime in August and has chosen to take the project to the people. His team is focusing on joints that his fans, including the whole family, can have simple access to.

Jazz on Sunday @ Theatre in the Park

The weekly Jazz in the park show has won the hearts of many.

Already, demand for the event has forced proprietors to make adjustments at the joint situated in Harare Gardens. They have installed a multi-purpose borehole that will be connected to the main water taps in the park.

Rooftop Promotions Producer Daves Guzha said the rehabilitation of facilities will enable them to effectively cater for the mature and dignified jazz connoisseurs that grace the gig.

“We have had to pause the Jazz on Sunday in Theatre in the Park for a short while due to the large numbers that were turning up for the event. However, the event will resume on July 3 after completion of the rehabilitation work. Theatre in the Park continues as usual since is does not attract huge numbers like the Jazz shows,” explained Guzha.

Motor Action Sports Club defies winter

It is amazing how the recently revamped outdoor joint has managed to battle the obvious challenges brought by the cold breeze.

Certainly, many expected the joint, just like any other, to fizzle out with the coming of winter but that has not been the case. Instead, revellers continue gracing the spot in their numbers.

Rather, the numbers have increased.

Perhaps it is the pro-active approach of the joint proprietors that has kept the wheel spinning. Wood-burning heaters have been introduced for the convenience of revellers.

They are also in the process of erecting a tent that will help shield revellers from the cold.
