THE inaugural Joshua Nkomo Golf Classic tees off on Thursday August 20 at Chapman Golf Club in Harare.
The event will use a four-ball beta-ball format and will see teams comprising senior Government officials participating in the charity event.
Event organiser Jabulani Hadebe said they are expecting a strong field.
Hadebe, the CEO of the Joshua Nkomo Foundation, said: “We have sent invitations to all Government departments and also to professional golfers through the Zimbabwe Golf Association.
“Tee-off time is 9am and we are expecting a good number of people to grace this event, which is the first of its kind. Our matches should be over by 5pm and we will do a prize-giving ceremony and the dinner afterwards.”
Hadebe revealed plans are afoot to make it an annual event which will also include junior golfers as a way of helping develop the game in the country.
“We are expecting to hold a much bigger and better one next year, our plan is to make it an annual event as we commemorate and celebrate the life of our African legend.
“There is also a plan to have junior golfers taking part in the next edition, because on the other hand we would also want to help develop the game of golf in the country.”
