I’ve set my heart on law

WHEN I embarked on my Ordinary Level studies, I chose an Arts combination for a reason.

I passed my O-Level exams with flying colours. I am now doing Upper Six and getting ready to take the next big step in my life.

My chosen subjects include Literature in English, History and Divinity.

When I complete high school studies, I want to enrol for a law degree. I have been honing my skills and tackling different issues by participating in debate and public speaking events at school.

My colleagues think I am being too ambitious considering that law studies are demanding, but I am sure I will make the grade.

The courtroom is where I belong.

During my spare time on holiday, I take time to follow court programmes on different television channels.

This has given me a rough idea of what to expect when I finally join the profession.

Besides, one of my uncles is a qualified and registered lawyer.

He has been giving me good career guidance over the years.

I hope to one day make him and my parents proud after I eventually get into law school and successfully graduate.

I feel law is not just a career for me; it is a calling.

I wish to specialise in criminal law so that I can help society get rid of bad elements such as armed robbers who are causing untold suffering across the country and beyond.

In the same vein, I also wish to help people who are being arrested and sometimes getting convicted for crimes they did not commit.

The most important thing is that I need to get good grades in my final Advanced Level exams.

I am studying hard and optimistic that I will pass at the end of the year. I feel only the sky is the limit for me.

One of my colleagues shares a similar dream with me, though he wishes to venture into commercial law.

It is my hope that one day we will be rubbing shoulders in some of the country’s top courts, representing different clients.
