AWARD-WINNING gospel musician Dorcas Moyo said she is impressed by Alick Macheso’s composing skills.

Moyo and Macheso collaborated on the hit song “Mhanza Haisekwe”, off the gospel singer’s latest offering with the same title.

The Mutare-based musician said the sungura maestro was an “automatic” choice for the Bible-inspired collaboration.

“I have always admired Macheso’s artistry. He inspired me as an artiste. Fate had it that we met and he told me that his mother is a fan of my music. As a way of appreciating our mother’s support, it became imminent that we do a piece together,” said Moyo.

The track was extracted from 2 Kings 2:23-24.

“He went up from there to Bethel; and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, ‘Go away, baldhead! Go away, baldhead!’ When he turned round and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord,” reads the verse.

Moyo further said she pleasantly discovered that Macheso is an avid gospel music follower.

“I cannot be compared to Baba Sharo (Macheso) in any way. But the moment I realised that he developed a soft spot for my music, I had to push for a collaboration,” said Moyo.

“Our vocals were in sync. The collabo came out well. It is my desire to grow our reach and inspire many people, and such collaborations can make it possible. Macheso has a huge following and I’m sure his fans will enjoy this track.”

Moyo said she personally did not see anything wrong working with secular musicians, though others have raised some reservations.

“I have always wanted to work on a big project and I think this is it. We need to grow our fan base and that requires employing several strategies along the way. I want to thank our fans for the support from the beginning.

“The track ‘Mhanza Haisekwe’
has been on number 1, trending on YouTube, and that means a lot for us. We will keep unleashing more good songs,” said Moyo.

Other notable songs on the new offering include “Ndipeiwo Mukana”, “Moyo Mutsva”, “Zvinoda Jesu” and “Tisapedzane”.
