ZIMBABWE Davis Cup tennis player Benjamin Lock has begun preparations for the crucial Euro/Africa Group II relegation tie against Moldova at Harare Sports Club next month.
Lock is using the ITF Futures tour to fine-tune and bagged his first singles title at the Mozambique F1 tourney last week.
“I am really happy with my form right now,” the 22-year-old told The Sunday Mail Sport. “I have been working hard and I am excited with the way I am playing.
“I am really looking forward to the Davis Cup. I think we are a good team and would want to show the country what we as a team are capable of doing,” he said.
The Florida State University student said he was in fine fettle.
“I am serving big and hitting my shots well, but the biggest difference for me is that I am playing more first strike tennis.
“I am feeling fit and healthy and I am in good shape,” said the youngster, who is inspired by the Black family.
“The Black family have always been good role models for me when growing up as they were very successful on the pro tour.
“I haven’t worked much with Wayne (Black), but he did give me some advice during the last Davis Cup tie. He seems like a very knowledgeable person.”
Lock will again link up with one of his idols, Black, when the two troop into camp in preparation for the Davis Cup tie together with Takanyi Garanganga and Mark Fynn.
The match against Moldova has been slated for July 17-19.
