‘I just love to laugh’ Tariro Anne Manamike

The Sunday Mail

TARIRO Anne Manamike — better known as Tari Anne — has become one of the most popular presenter/producers on Capitalk100.4FM. Here, she talks about her rise to stardom and what makes her tick.

**************************

Q: Can you briefly tell us about yourself?

A: Tariro Manamike is a radio producer/presenter. I was born in Harare in 1986. My most popular radio show is “Soul to Soul” and it runs on Monday and Wednesday from 9pm to 12pm. I also host the “Breakfast Show” on Friday. As a child, I always had a flair for drama, debate, art and discussions. That was a comment my Grade One teacher at Houghton Park Primary School wrote in my first-term report. I guess she was onto something. After primary school, I first went to St David’s Bonda Girls High before I proceeded to St Dominic’s Chishawasha for my Advanced Levels. I learnt a lot of life skills at the two schools. I am a holder of a bachelor’s degree in management.

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: I do not have a single passion. And it all depends on what stage and head-space I am in. My personality is versatile, thus I like to explore various things. Currently, I am passionate about mental health because it is the engine that runs all of us. I am also keen to discuss issues to do with cancer. Studies and research show that a third of cancers can be prevented through diet and lifestyle. I have been encouraging people to go for screening. Early detection saves lives.

Q: What is your favourite pastime?

A: I do a lot of reading, dancing, gardening and naturally listen to music. I also like to cook for my family, experimenting with different cuisines.

Q: Does your sex talk programme not bother you?

A: Not at all! Or shall I say, not anymore! When I started the show years ago, I was nervous. I had never done it before. I was a little afraid of how people would view me, but not anymore. Sex is a huge part of adult relationships and I have found that there are a lot of myths, misconceptions, attitudes and beliefs about it. “Soul to Soul” clarifies most of the issues.

Q: What is your goal in life?

A: I would like to influence my society in a positive way. I want to be a good example to my sons, showing them the beauty of hard work. If I can make a difference through my work, then I would have achieved quite a lot. Radio is powerful. Thus, I aim to use my voice to plant seeds of useful information and kindness.

Q: How do you balance being a mother and a public figure?

A: I think I have managed to make the two roles co-exist peacefully. I am a mum to two boys who are vastly different. It is almost as if I am a different mum to each of them. I have learnt patience and negotiating skills from the little one, whilst the older one challenges me in a more intellectual way. I am a mum when my kids need me and I do the ‘celebrity’ thing when it is called upon me. My job is very demanding emotionally and mentally. I am fortunate though to have an amazing team of women that support me with the kids.

Q: What can listeners look forward to on your shows?

A: Laughter and genuine stories. I love to laugh and be silly, and question serious things in a light manner. I share my own personal experiences with the audience whenever I can relate to the subject of discussion.

Q: What has been your most embarrassing moment on air?

A: I was asked a very personal matter. It shook me but I needed to respond and I did, telling the truth though it was not the subject for discussion.

Q: What is your favourite food?

A: I love pork bones and muriwo une dovi, not as a combination. I could have them every week if it was possible.

 Q: Are you into reading?

A: Yes, I love reading. I read multiple books at the same time. The book I choose to read at a particular time depends on my mood. I am currently reading “Hold On to Your Kids” written by Dr Gabor Mate and “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.
