Hip hop artiste stirs hornet’s nest, Twitter responds

It seems hip hop artiste R Peels has stirred a hornet’s nest as he tries to market his recently released project “Songs Of Solomon EP”.

While using controversy as a launchpad is not foreign in the music industry, R Peels might have gone a bit too far, or at least that is what some Twimbos think.

The rapper has been trending for the past few hours, albeit for the wrong reasons, with some statements he made on Twitter being met with cold reactions.

Pinned to the top of his Twitter handle is a statement that reads, “Dear artists, 500 fans who buy your album for 5 dollars (US$) is 500X5 2500US$, that’s more than most these (sic) in office losers salaries.”

In response to this tweet, many were quick to highlight that the people who he was calling losers are the same ones he expects to buy his music.

“Office loser salaries are used to buy the album, by your fans. Unless you’ll buy from each other, using tokens,” read one comment.

“Never bite the hand that feeds you bruv. Always maintain humility, even when you are shining,” went another commentator.

The rapper also took shots at other personalities, including Mudiwa.

Someone even maliciously went on to put up a poll where he asked what was more popular between R Peels’ music and “huku dzaTerry” (the young twitter socialite farmer).

Out of more than 3 000 votes, the rapper only scored 7 percent.

While his statements certainly got people talking, only time will tell if this sort of attention will translate to people warming up to his music.
