Government is assessing 2015 medical aid licence renewal applications and will soon determine whether or not any healthcare funders will be de-registered for failing to pay gazetted medical fees.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa, told The Sunday Mail last Thursday that Permanent Secretary Dr Gerald Gwinji was working on the applications.

“We have received submissions from medical aid societies on annual licence renewals. The Permanent Secretary is working on them.” Dr Parirenyatwa said.

In 2014, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said it would not renew licences of financially unstable medical aid societies that do not stick to stipulated tariffs.

This followed protracted arguments between doctors and healthcare funders over the tariffs.
