IT is now close to three years since the death of prominent Harare businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure.

His envied lifestyle, which was punctuated by heavy partying, is, however, still influencing scores of admirers and wannabes.

One such wannabe, Tererai Chiodze, who has given himself the moniker Sam Cash, recently threw a birthday party that was inspired by Ginimbi’s famed “all-white parties”.

Guests were treated to expensive food and drinks, with Zimdancehall artiste Killer T and Shashl providing entertainment.

Among the invitees were high-profile entrepreneurs and well-known hustlers like Boss Rhodes and Boss Tumelo.

Expensive beers and whisky flowed freely as the revellers soaked themselves in the festivity that lasted until the wee hours of the following day.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Society, Sam Cash, who turned 37 on Saturday, said he was emulating what the late Ginimbi did when he was still alive.

“Ginimbi was my friend and hero. Since I grew up in poverty, we share the same background. I try as much as I can to emulate my late friend’s lifestyle,” he said.

Born and bred in Harare’s Mufakose suburb, the socialite, like the late Ginimbi, rose from humble beginnings to become one of the country’s most recognisable faces.

“The venue alone cost me a fortune. I gobbled up to US$40 000 for the event. Ginimbi once threw a party on which he splashed US$40 000,” he purred.

At the party, Sam Cash — who is the founder of Tererati Investments, a company that reportedly has interests in logistics, gold buying, car sales and rentals — was showered with expensive gifts, which included a brand-new Toyota GD6, a brand-new iPhone 14, a ticket to Dubai and US$5 000.

“As businesspeople, we sometimes spoil ourselves and organise parties, but we must not forget where we came from.

“ I am currently paying school fees for more than 50 children from disadvantaged backgrounds,” he said.
