SEASONED campaigners Chicken Inn made another statement of intent in the Castle Lager Premiership marathon when they posted their second consecutive victory and halted free-spending Bulawayo Chiefs’ march in an exciting match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

The Gamecocks last weekend thumped visiting Tenax.

They kept the momentum yesterday courtesy of some individual brilliance by stocky forward Brian Muza, who subtracted a sea of Bulawayo Chief’s defenders to find the opener after 13 minutes.

Following a good exchange of passes in the middle of the park, creative and combative Shepherd “Malume” Mhlanga made it two for Chicken Inn.

Bulawayo Chiefs, who are also fondly called Amakhosi Amahle, got their consolation in the 57th minute when substitute Sipho Ndlovu curled in a beautiful free-kick that beat a diving Donovan Bernard to his left.

Chicken Inn assistant coach Prince Matore attributed hard work to their fine run.

“It was a good game.

“We have posted two consecutive wins, which shows that we have been working hard.

“We fought hard to get this kind of a result. As such, we will continue to seek to do well and our focus now shifts to our next game against Dynamos.”

Matore took charge of the game as head coach Joey Antipas, who had a family bereavement last week, watched from the terraces.

Antipas arrived in Bulawayo yesterday afternoon after attending his brother’s funeral in Harare.

Chiefs head coach Nilton Terroso acknowledged that they lost to a better side.

“It was a good game, we started well but we could not just convert our chances. We got punished by Chicken Inn and we really got shaken up by the two goals that they scored in the first half.

“Congratulations to Chicken Inn! We learnt a lot from this match and, as such, we are now planning to see how we go about in the next match.

“Depending on how we will train, the players will actually show who is and who is not ready for the next assignment against Tenax,” said Terroso.

Chicken Inn will travel to face Dynamos in their next assignment.

Elsewhere at Baobab Stadium, Yadah and Black Rhinos drew 0-0.
