A local organisation, Forest Lovers, last week donated tree plants to Chishamiso Children’s Home in Hatfield and Zuva Petroleum Service Station in Sotherton to promote sustainable environmental protection.
Forest Lovers plans to plant a million trees under the “Every Child, a Tree” initiative to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
On Friday, the organisation donated 15 fruit trees.
Forest Lovers chief executive Mr Bob Riyete Mavende said their mission was to inspire children to play a part in the fight against climate change.
“Today, we planted 15 trees and we are targeting to carry out this same exercise randomly until we reach our target,” he said. We are pushing for the involvement of children in finding solutions to climate change.
“Our mission is to actually activate and empower children to take part in such initiatives that help our planet in the fight against global warming.
“We believe kids can play an instrumental role in fighting climate change as we empower them.”
Forest Lovers brand ambassador for the initiative Conllious Muzenda said: “Trees are very important in our lives and on Friday we did our first plantation programme, where we planted 15 trees and we aim to plant more.”
Mr Innocent Chigiya, marketing manager of Natfort Energy, which has partnered Forest Lovers for the initiative, said: “Planting trees keeps our ecosystem safe.
“Doing this at a children’s home allows children to grow trees and it teaches them the importance of growing trees and keeping our ecosystem pristine and preserving our trees.
“Children should know the importance of our natural resources and environment which should be preserved for posterity.”
