‘Football is not played on Facebook’

The Sunday Mail

ONLY a fool would rule out DeMbare from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title race, club captain Stephen Alimenda has said. The former champions are yet to register a win in six league outings – a run that has seen them collecting a paltry five points from a possible 18 – to arm critics who have dismissed them as championship no-hopers.

However, Alimenda points to Dynamos’ proven history of smash and grabs as he warns that the 11 point gap between log leaders FC Platinum and his team can be slashed.

“It can’t be easy but what we know is that those at the top are shivering at the thought of Dynamos rising again,” said Alimenda.

“I don’t want to talk much about the title race but honestly how can people say we are out this early? We still have to play most of the teams at the top and the challenge is for us to cut the difference.

We are very united here and focused on the job at hand but if you check Facebook and other social networks that is where you hear of disharmony in our camp.

“The good thing, however, is that football is played on the field of play and not on Facebook.

If you look at how we have been playing you will see that we have been trying our best but results have been eluding us.”

Alimenda reckons genuine DeMbare fans will stick by their club through thick and thin.

“True Dynamos fans know we have given it our best and know very soon we will come right. If you see anybody doubting us you should know they are not part of us and we can’t lose sleep over what the opponent is thinking.

“Genuine supporters of this institution will always stand with us even in difficult times just as they do in exciting times.

“They are so passionate and optimistic to an extent that even when granted the opportunity I won’t waste time urging them to rally behind us because it’s something that comes to them naturally,” he said.
