DEFENDING champions FC Platinum eased into the quarter finals of the Chibuku Super Cup after dismissing Dongo Sawmill in a first round tie at Mandava yesterday.

Goals either side of the half time whistle from Brian Muzondiwa and Tarisai Rukanda gave Norman Mapeza’s men passage into the last eight.

Muzondiwa opened the scoring on 35 minutes after being played on by the impressive Allan Gahadzikwa.

Gahadzikwa got possession in the middle of the park, subtracted his marker before dissecting the Dongo defence with a sublime pass that Muzondiwa latched on to before rifling a shot that went through the legs of goalkeeper Forward Pfumojena.

It was Muzondiwa’s fifth goal of the season.

Rukanda sealed the game when he headed home after reacting swiftly to a cross from Ian “Gumbura”Nekati in the 75th minute.

Dongo Sawmill coach Shadreck Magurasave reckons soft goals undid his team’s hard work.

“I would like to say congratulations to FC Platinum. They played very well despite the fact that we gave them soft goals. I, however, would like to warn other teams to stop speaking about relegation,” said Shadreck Magurasave.

Mapeza welcomed passage into the quarter finals.

“We wanted to get to the second round . . . that was the most important thing for us. We could have scored three or four but I am happy for the boys because they worked so hard. We will see what happens next,” he said.
