Becoming a father can be one of the proudest moments in a man’s life because entering the world of parenthood is a fulfilling experience. Although fathers are usually regarded as secondary caregivers, since mothers do most of the work in raising children, they also make significant contributions in taking care of the family as a whole.Today, fathers are in for a treat as the country joins several other nations from across the globe in celebrating Father’s Day.

While mothers are usually the favourites when it comes to being spoiled and showered with gifts, today families are honouring their fathers.

The list of things that people can do to show their appreciation is vast and it will come down to individual preferences.

While some families might want to celebrate the day as a unit, others might regard it as “daddy’s day out”, where husbands will be granted permission to go out and have fun with their friends without any curfews, as is usually the norm.

Here are suggestions of what people can partake in while celebrating this special day.

Jah army invades Pamuzinda

While the chilly weather is known to discourage fun lovers from attending outdoor events, the trends seem to have shifted this season with some of the recent shows receiving good crowds.

Today, Ice and Fire Pamuzinda plays host to in-form Jah Prayzah who will be unleashing his bag of tricks for a Father’s Day special showpiece.

The talented artiste will be sharing the stage with upcoming artistes Sam Dondo and Mbeu, who have both been firing warning shots since their arrival in the industry.

Pamuzinda has been known to host some of the biggest gigs in the capital and this one is also poised to be a thriller considering the fire that Jah Prayzah is known to bring to the stage during his performances.

Affording your father the opportunity to go and be part of this gig might be a unique way of showing your appreciation for his love.

Pamuzinda proprietor Josh Hozheri described today’s show as a special daddy’s day out.

“Today is a special daddy’s day out because fathers are not taking themselves out or taking out their spouses today, they are being spoiled either by their children or spouses.

“We have a unique line-up that is suitable for all age groups. So I urge those that want to spoil their fathers to do so at Pamuzinda today,” said Hozheri.

Mad Sundays come to The Volt

Judgment Yard is one of the best dancehall stables in the country and for the past few years, their Mad Sunday slot at Red Fox Hotel ensured that it was the prime dancehall night club in the city.

After announcing that the stable was ending its marriage with Red Fox, tonight they ignite a new romance with The Volt, which is now their new base.

This inaugural gig dubbed the Judgement Yard Real Rich Mad Sunday, will mark a new beginning for both the night club and DJ stable as they seek to continue the dancehall Sunday culture.

The combination of Etherton B and DJ Flavah is irresistible as they have proven both on radio and in front of live audiences.

While some dancehall fans have complained in the past about the location of the stable’s previous base, which is a bit far from town, the centrality of The Volt will put smiles on many fans.

Since opening its doors to the public late last year, The Volt has significantly grown in popularity, becoming a favourite hunting ground for many artistes who include Alexio Kawara, Oliver Mtukudzi, Sulumani Chimbetu, Guspy Warrior, Ba Shupi, Jah Prayzah and Stunner, just to mention a few. Owners of The Volt, who also run Motor Action Sundays, say from today, they will start providing free transport from Motor Action Sports Club to the club every Sunday.

“In fact, it will be a shuttle service between the two places,” said Spencer Madziya aka Boss Spencer.

The Kebab factor

The Old Kebab Centre along Enterprise Road has been on a comeback path after re-opening its doors recently. Today, their Red Hot Sunday session will be another Father’s Day hang-out option to consider.

With veteran DJs Dee Nosh, L Roy and Storm behind the decks, the music will certainly be on point.

The good combination of grilled meat, beer and good music has always been the major draw card for this particular joint and today, the vibe will be amped up for Father’s Day.

Pariah joins reggae-dancehall wagon

Pariah State Avondale, a classy joint that has established itself as one of the top night spots in Harare, has also introduced Sunday reggae sessions.

Reggae music has proved to be one of the most popular genres among music lovers in the country and these sessions will be a welcome addition to the clubs that are already catering for the genre.

It could be worth it to go and enjoy the night at the club, with its classy vibe and good services.

“Today is a special daddy’s day out because fathers are not taking themselves out or taking out their spouses today, they are being spoiled either by their children or spouses’’.
