Budding entrepreneurs have been urged to seek mentorship from successful businesspeople to help turn their ventures into flourishing businesses.

Speaking during a business networking cocktail on Thursday, KinderCare Zimbabwe and Imani Foundation executive director Dr Faith Nyamukapa said it was crucial for upcoming entrepreneurs to associate with established businesspeople.

“The purpose of this event was to empower entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge from those who have done something in life,” said Dr Nyamukapa.

“It was also an opportunity to learn from people who have reached new heights, but are still striving to go much higher.

“It is rare to have people who will tell you stories behind their success. Some people feel threatened to speak out because they may think that you will take their ideas or you can become a competitor. But today the good thing is that we have been hearing from the horse’s mouth and this gives us more confidence.”

The event was themed “Connect, engage, build relationships and network”.

Dr Nyamukapa said the event was organised to help prepare entrepreneurs for future challenges.

“Looking at Covid-19, it has really affected everyone, even businesswise. Now the year is coming to an end, we thought of organising this event because we need people to be inspired and refocus for 2022. The year 2021 was harsh but we cannot give up,” she added.

Business mentor and philanthropist Mr Israel Thompson, who was the guest of honour, said budding entrepreneurs should have a mindset that is geared towards development.

“Most of businesses in Zimbabwe are surviving on fire fighting.

“It is, therefore, vital for us to change our mindsets and network with different people.

“Meeting new people will arm you with new thinking, new ideas and opportunities,” he said.
