It is Easter time. We all know that. What we do need to know is where and how to spend the holiday.

While the devout will dedicate much time to church activities, the more hedonistic will use this “free” time to pay homage to the gods of wine and song.

A number of activities some starting on April 2, have already been lined up for Easter.

Fungisai preaches at Montclair

In the Eastern Highlands, gospel sensation Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, who recently combined forces with Montclair Resort and Casino, will on Saturday and Sunday introduce, for the first time, her 15-member choir, Healing Waters, at the venue.

The top singer will have an opportunity to mesmerise vacationers in the misty mountains of Nyanga.

Fungisai has promised to sample most “if not all” of the songs from her forthcoming projects during her two-day Montclair outing.

Not all of the songs will be of the gospel variety. The artiste is working on a double album, one gospel and the other social.

The outing will provide a perfect platform for Fungisai to test the effectiveness of her newly assembled choir, with which she will subsequently tour the nation.

Montclair Resort has a history of hosting Zimbabwe’s finest artistes.

Oliver Mtukudzi, Zimbabwe’s Tourism Ambassador, is the face behind the growing Tuku Golf Tournament and Shows that take place twice a year at Montclair.

Montaclair director Lewis Chasakara says they are ready to host the huge number of people expected there over Easter.

Mixed bag in Kariba

Anglers have something to look forward to.

The Charara All Species Tournament (CAST) Easter 2015 is going to be held in Kariba from April 4 to 5 at Charara Campsite.

The aim of the National Anglers’ Union of Zimbabwe Charara CAST, hosted by Caravan Campers Angling Society, is to encourage junior angling by getting parents to take the whole family out for a fishing holiday.

While others focus on fishing, skydivers will go through their drills, basing from Kariba Airport over Easter in Kariba. This will be done under the banner of the Zimbabwe Parachute Association.

And houseboats and lakeside lodges are ready to host holidaymakers.

A special cruise will be on offer. This one will cater for exclusive groups, families or any such groups, wishing to avoid the crowds and explore the islands, braai and experience a day out on the lake. Cutty Sark Hotel is under new management and this Easter will be their first real test of peak period.

Caribbea Bay Resort has added a speedboat to its activities’ list.

Most activities in the resort town have been organised by a mobilising committee, led by Laiton Mkandawire.

Jazz party in Vic Falls

Tour operators in Victoria Falls have made sure visitors will enjoy leisure activities like aerial game/scenic viewing, angling and motorised fishing, bungee jumping and game viewing without hassle during Easter.

After the day-time activities, the newly opened ZimCafe International will be open to soothe parched throats. The joint will over Easter play host to the re-unification of the evergreen Rusike Brothers – Tawanda, Addie, Phillip and twins Kelly and Collin.

The brothers will take fans down memory lane with their 1980s classics. The hugely talented group rarely performs together due to work commitments although top bassist Kelly is part of the super group, Jazz Invitation.

The Rusike Brothers are known for their hip dressing and danceable music. Watch out for classics like “Dance on Saturday Night “and their rendition of “Cecilia”.

Easter at the ZimCafe International starts with Acoustic Friday on April 3, followed by Afro Party on Saturday and then Jazz Sunday on April 5.

Hunting with Red Fox

Red Fox Entertainment has come up with a loaded Easter programme that will see them visit Bulawayo, Mutare before landing back in Harare – not to rest, but for another show with visiting United Kingdom DJ Kris Goldfinger.

KGF is a former BBC Radio 1 host who presented the station’s hugely popular Reggae Dancehall show from 1996 to 2009.

Goldfinger will weave his magic on the decks at Eden Night Club (Bulawayo) on April 3 before proceeding to Glow Bar in Mutare for the same purpose the following day. After this, he will then return to Red Fox Harare for the Mad Sunday Edition on April 5.

The visiting UK disc jockey will be supported by high-flying locals Kivo Santana, Jamie Cee, Chucknosis, and sound movements in the mould of Red Fox Family, Legendary Sounds and Judgement Yard. After the Goldfinger and Easter affair, Red Fox’s Robert Zhuwao will then host a Luciano welcome party on April 9 at Red Fox Hotel. Luciano will be around for the Pacific Zimbabwe Sunsplash gig on April 10 at Harare’s Glamis Arena. There will also be jazz in Harare.

At The Dining Point, Afro Jazz star Alexio Kawara gets up-close with his fans.

The Dining Point proprietor, Nana Munyanyiwa, says the April 3 show will see Harareans celebrate Easter in style.

Food, drink and music will be the order of the day. And apart from the Alexio gig, the joint will host a number of other entertainment activities specifically designed for the Easter holiday.

At the movies

Big screen lovers will be catered for during the holiday. On Friday April 3, most of the country’s leading cinemas will premiere new movies.

According to Movie Insider, Good Friday will mark the premieres of “Furious 7” (Action), “Superfast” (Comedy), “Last Knights” (Action), “The Salt of The Earth” (Documentary), “Effie Gray” (Drama) and “Cut Bank” (Thriller) to Zimbabwe.

The advancement of technology has made it possible for local cinemas to synchronically premiere movies with their international counterparts.

So, happy holidays to you all!
