NEWBOYS Golden Eagles are setting the trend with the professional manner they are going about their business in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League.
They are also matching their off-field organisation and decorum with some fine performances on the pitch.
Yesterday, they ran amok at the National Sports Stadium, pumping half a dozen goals past hapless PAM FC.
After having been made to wait for their rivals who turned up late, Joel Luphahla’s men were quick to settle and found their opener in the 13th minute when Lindell Mupfumisi struck.
He made it a double seven minutes later.
It was, however, not until the second period that Eagles turned on the power and added four more goals, courtesy of strikes by midfielder Nigel Gandari in the 48th minute, skipper Henry Manatsa with the fourth and a late brace from Claudio Mapoka.
Mapoka took his tally to four goals in six matches.
Despite being made to chase shadows for much of the afternoon, PAM could have at least found a consolation 10 minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty.
But veteran goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya saved the spot-kick to ensure the Eagles soared.
They recorded the biggest-winning margin in the league so far this season.
With log leaders Herentals Under-20 being held 1-1 by Harare City Cubs on Friday and ambitious Simba Bhora recovering from their 1-1 draw with Trojan Stars to hammer Chakari outfit Come Again 4-0 at Wadzanayi in Shamva yesterday, it is promising to be a tight contest for honours from start to finish in the championship marathon.
Results:
Black Mambas 2 – 0 Ngezi Platinum Under-19
Harare City Clubs 1 – 1 Herentals Under-20
Simba Bhora 4 – 0 Come Again
