SOUTH AFRICAN bred Duffi’s Call, from Bridget Stidolph’s yard, romped to victory in the 2016 OK Grand Challenge race at Borrowdale yesterday.
Ridden by Brendon McNaughton, Duffi’s Call outpaced Windigo in the last 100 meters to claim the 28th edition of the OK Grand Challenge race and pocket $24 000.
Windigo from Kirk Swanson’s stable settled for second and netted $ 8000 for the yard.
The horse, which also came second in the Castle Tankard race, had Francois Herholdt on the saddle.
Whiteline Fever came third pocketed $ 4800 for its owner, trainer, jockey and groomer.
Mathematician also from Stidolph’s stable and ridden by Wesley Marwing came fourth.
Rock the Country, which was attempting a double after clinching the Castle Tankard, disappointed while another pre race favorite Flax finished outside the top three.
Stidolph, who has watched Duffi’s Call win six of the last nine races, is pleased with how the horse has developed.
“When I was first handled this horse Duffi’s Call I was confident it would go far, we look forward to a fruitful career,” she said.
