UNITED States-based music producer and songwriter Phillip Kembo is lifting the country’s flag high with his great work.

Kembo, who is better known as Dr Chaii, has become one of the most sought-after producers and entertainers.

He has been making waves by producing top songs for world class superstars, among them Sean Paul, Chris Brown and Maroon 5.

His extraordinary mix of afro-beat, pop and dancehall is proving hard to resist for many across the globe. In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, Dr Chaii said he decided to embark on his musical journey after graduating with a Master’s degree in Advanced Marketing.

“Education has played a major role in shaping my music career as it gave me an insight and expertise in marketing and business,” said the producer-cum-songwriter, who was born and raised in Harare.

The number of A-list Hollywood stars who wish to work with him is growing with each passing day.

Asked what makes him tick, Dr Chaii simply said: “My capability to fuse different musical stripes creates a unique and contagious sound that is hard to resist for many.”

Among the songs he has worked on are “No Taradiddle” by Sean Paul, featuring Dua Lipa; “Questions”, done by Chris Brown; “Hey Ma”, a collaboration featuring J Balvin, Camila Cabello and Pitbull; Jason Derulo’s “Tip Toe”; “One Light” by Maroon 5; “Familia” by Nicki Minaj, Anuel AA and Bantu; “Hot Sauce” by NCT Dream; and “Coming To You” by Becky G and Digital Farm.

Grammy nominations He has received three Grammy nominations for “Hey Ma”, done by J Blavin and Pitbull, featuring Camila Cabello; and a stylish compendium soundtrack for “Familia”.

Dr Chaii’s journey as a performing artiste started in 2019. “I released my first single ‘Jackie Chan’ with Bantu and it featured on the FIFA 19 soundtrack,” he said.

Dr Chaii’s music is known for its catchy warbles, contagious beats and uplifting lyrics that promote joy, love and acceptance.

“I believe in using music as a tool to spread positivity and inspire others.” Dr Chaii is set to release his much-anticipated “Minister of Enjoyment” extended play (EP) this month.
