Do not turn a blind eye

The Sunday Mail

Society is suffering because of the silence of good people.

When you decide to turn a blind eye to wrong doing, you might be a bigger danger to society than the perpetrator.

Many wrong deeds are being done in broad daylight, even as the world is watching.

In a road traffic accident attributed to over speeding, it may not be surprising that nobody cautioned the driver.

Everyone would have said to themselves it is none of their business until there are fatalities.

You endanger yourself and the world when you can or could have saved the situation by not turning a blind eye.

How do you acknowledge that someone is a thief or burglar among your own and do nothing about it?

It becomes common and acceptable that such labels are created for people who should ordinarily be corrected.

Ignoring bad behaviour shapes out as confirmation for the wrong behaviour. Society has a choice to reinforce or diminish behaviours depending on how the behaviours are perceived.

Be that one person who watches and speaks out when necessary.

Reprimanded at the initial stages one can change their ways. Don’t allow bad behaviour to bloom especially among the youth.

Speak out, mindful that society needs you to save the day. You need to be known for truthfulness and speaking out against wrong doing.

By turning a blind eye, the wrong message is put across where bad behaviour gets silent reinforcement. Being the respectable person that you are, your silence is misconstrued as confirmation.

Your turning a blind eye accounts for the high moral decadence.

In a society whose moral campus is threatening to go defunct the last thing that anyone can afford to do is turn a blind eye.

If it happens in your presence and it is wrong, you have only one option that is to speak out.

What you ignore today will affect you tomorrow. The burglar next door that you ignored will keep doing it and you will be their next target.

While you have power over it today, tomorrow you will be a defenceless victim.

Even if it will not directly affect you as a person, how would you feel knowing you could have saved the perpetrator and the victim?

Drug abuse starts as a habit of just puffing a cigarette by youngsters whilst elders ignore them. The habit will then grow into addiction and the addicts will end up mugging people and breaking houses when they could have been saved by being taught good morals.

Similarly, speaking out is not about your age or position of authority.

Never assume that someone knows that they are doing the wrong thing, you will be surprised by their innocence and only your voice could have saved them.

It is not your business whether your voice is acknowledged or not. You ought to be the small voice in the wrong doer even if they chose to continue on the wrong path.

Turning a blind eye is one of societies major weaknesses.

Be an exception and speak out for the good of humanity.
