THE music industry all over the world has been evolving, with new strategies being formulated every day to ensure that the business stays profitable.

With global record sales taking a plunge, those who have been embracing new methods of pushing their music have managed to stay afloat while some are still on the back foot.

Despite the fact that the early 2000s saw substantial growth in the local music industry, particularly the number of active artistes, there has not been any huge improvement in terms of financial gains for the majority of them.

The industry has been facing many challenges but not much has been done to find a solution – that might just change with a music expo that is on the cards.

Ngoma Ngairire Zimbabwe Music Expo 2015, which is set to take place from December 4 to December 6 will feature stakeholders from every sector of the music and entertainment industry who intend to use this platform to interact, identify challenges, discover talents and broker deals, among other things.

Running under the theme “There is Music Business in Zimbabwe”, this might just be what the industry needs.

Some of the drawbacks in the music industry are attributed to lack of adequate knowledge in various sections of the music business.

This expo is the brainchild of radio personality and avid music critic Richard Kohola, popularly known as RK the Music Doctor.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Leisure, the expo’s spokesperson Melody Zambuko said that this extravaganza was going to benefit everyone who is involved in music.

“This expo is going to provide a platform for music players and consumers to meet and interact as they interrogate the challenges affecting the industry so as to find solutions that will pave the way forward,” said Zambuko.

Being the first of its kind in Zimbabwe, this is an unexplored territory but Zambuko was confident that the expo would be a success.

“We have never had something of this nature in Zimbabwe but I think people are going to embrace the concept.

“Since this is our first year, we are going to start on a small scale in order to make it as intimate as possible.”
