‘Dead man’ comes alive on autopsy table

The Sunday Mail

AN Indian man severely injured in a motorcycle crash was found moving on an autopsy table just before doctors prepared to open him up, a health official said.

The 27-year-old from Mahalingapur town in the southern state of Karnataka was brought to a private hospital in critical condition on the weekend, where doctors declared him dead and took him off a ventilator.

His family then moved him to a nearby government hospital where he was to undergo a post-mortem examination on Monday.

Relatives told local media a pathologist saw the body move as it lay on the autopsy table.

A government health officer confirmed the incident and told AFP the injured man was then immediately admitted to another hospital, where his condition was improving.

The official said doctors at the private hospital had exercised “bad judgement” when they removed him from the ventilator and presumed him dead.

The family has yet to launch a formal complaint, the official added.

Nabbed for high speed to the toilet

We can all sympathise with someone who urgently ‘needs to go’, but legally speaking that certainly will not serve as an excuse for driving at over 200km/h on the freeway.

A driver in the United Kingdom recently found that out the hard way when she was caught driving at speeds of up to 209 km/h.

According to social media posts by the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit, the driver was caught doing an average speed of 181,8km/h, with speeds varying between 160km/h and 209 km/h, in her Mercedes-AMG G63.

The driver claimed she was driving that speed because she “needed the toilet”. However, police say she was driving so fast that she did not even notice that she had passed a service station.

To make matters worse, the driver only holds a provisional licence and she was driving unsupervised.

The Derbyshire Constabulary said that the vehicle was seized and the driver will presumably face a court of law fairly soon.

Tragedy at shopping mall

A two-year-old boy has tragically died after authorities say he fell from his father’s arms on a second-storey escalator.

The Aurora police department confirmed the fatal incident in a statement to PEOPLE, noting that it occurred around 4pm on Sunday at the Town Centre shopping in Aurora (US).

Police and fire officials were called to the scene after receiving a report about a child who had fallen from the second floor to the first floor, according to the statement.

Police said an initial investigation determined that the two-year-old was being held by his father at the top of the escalator when the child lunged forward.

The father then lost his grip and the child fell to the first floor, per police.

Their identities have not been released.

Witnesses who were at the mall spoke to KCNC following the incident — and some said they saw the boy lying on the ground unconscious before he was taken away by first responders.

“I was in one of the shoe stores and I heard a lot of screaming — I heard a lady screaming, then out of nowhere the shop owner ran outside,” Cesar Solorzano told the outlet.

“He was on the phone (and) I heard him saying that something happened, and he couldn’t close the store because he had guests. And then he looked at me, he told me what happened, that a little kid fell off the escalator.”

Following the incident, the boy was transported to a local hospital but died on Monday morning, police confirmed in their statement.

An investigation is currently underway. Though it is still in the early stages, Aurora Police said they believe the incident was an accident.

As authorities continue to look into the tragedy, one shopper told KCNC this will serve as a painful reminder to all parents about the dangers of escalators.

“It’s just a reminder for parents,” the unidentified shopper told the outlet. “Even if you are holding onto your kids going down the escalator, you can never be too safe.”

Naked fugitive found in croc-infested swap

A naked fugitive hiding out in trees above crocodile-infested waters has been discovered by a pair of fishermen, after spending days surviving on snails in swampy mangroves in Australia’s far north.

Kevin Joiner and Cam Faust found the naked man, covered in mud and mosquito bites calling for help, on Sunday afternoon while fishing near Darwin, according to local media.

“We didn’t understand how he got there…,” Joiner told Nine News on Wednesday.

The man was dehydrated and needed help, so the pair took him aboard, offered him a pair of shorts, a beer and drove him back to Darwin, Joiner said.

But once the man arrived at the hospital, police placed him under arrest for allegedly skipping bail on armed robbery offences.

His rescuers said he had told them he became lost while walking in the area and they were surprised by his alleged crimes.

“We were going to visit him in hospital and then we found that out, and we thought ‘we might give that one a miss,” Faust said.

Northern Territory Northern Watch Commander Len Turner confirmed to the media that the man had been under police guard over several offences.

“He was placed into custody and is now at Royal Darwin Hospital being treated for the harsh conditions that he subjected himself to,” Turner told newspaper NT News. — Wires
