FOR years Cuthbert Dube and his Zifa propaganda machinery have sought to make us believe that the Zifa president is a man who so loves our football that he is even willing to part with his money to save and serve it. They have told us that Dube loves our game so much he has to date invested over US$2 million of his personal funds into it.
However, revelations that Dube used money from the Premier Service Medical Aid Society to finance Zifa operations expose the Zifa president.
Whose money was it? Cuthbert Dube’s or PSMAS’s?
There is a reason to believe that Dube’s questionable management style plugged PSMAS into the hole it finds itself in today.
Now the question that has to be asked and truthfully answered is where is Dube taking Zifa?
Dube came into office amid a promise to use the experience he gained from “transforming PSMAS” to bring the jolly good days back at 53 Livingstone Avenue.
He is in his second term now but the new day promised hasn’t come – and it does not look like it will be coming anytime soon.
The allegations of patronage contained in a draft forensic audit report by Ernst and Young on PSMAS make very interesting reading, as reported on page 1 of The Sunday Mail.
Dube has developed a reputation of taking good care of his own and these individuals show their gratitude through shameful boot-licking and plotting the ouster of those viewed to be enemies of the Zifa president. But Dube’s days at Zifa should be coming to an end now.
He faces a vote of no confidence on October 3 at a time when one of his close allies Brian Chishanga, the Midlands provincial chairman, has broken ranks with him. The departure of Andrew Langa from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has been celebrated in the football circles.
Minister Langa appeared to treat Dube with kid gloves with his laid back approach a far cry from his then deputy Tabitha Kanengoni Malinga.
Hope is abound that the new Sports Minister, Makhosini Hlongwane, will take the Zifa bull by the horns and help bring some sanity into local football.
