The Civil Protection Unit (CPU) is putting together a team of nurses, teachers and law enforcement officers to conduct search and rescue operations for drug and substance addicts as the nation joins hands in fighting the scourge.
Speaking during the launch of an anti-drug abuse awareness programme by the Colporteur Missionary Society Zimbabwe Trust in Harare, CPU chief director, Mr Nathan Nkomo, said there was need for a collaborative approach in confronting the problem.
“Drug and substance abuse is now considered as one of the emerging disasters in the country,” he said. “When dealing with such a disaster, we apply the framework of disaster management, which includes search and rescue.
“We are preparing a dedicated team of nurses, teachers and representatives from the districts and provinces to be involved in search and rescue operations.”
