Chisora promises more drama

The Sunday Mail

BRITISH heavyweights Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte put on a spectacular show during their bad blood showdown earlier this month.

The two rivals met on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s IBF title defence against Eric Molina in Manchester after a turbulent build-up.

Chisora was fined more than £30,000 and disqualified from competing for the British heavyweight title for throwing a table at Whyte during a press conference.

After narrowly avoiding having the fight cancelled, many doubted whether the pair were capable of producing a fight worth watching – but they needn’t have worried.

Fuelled by their long-running feud, the duo put on an old-school showcase of heavyweight boxing.

Whyte, the more technically gifted of the two, scored steadily with precision and volume, whereas Chisora flew out of the blocks swinging bombs.

Twelve rounds later, Whyte was awarded the win via a split decision – despite Chisora being ahead on many observers’ scorecards.

“The rematch is gonna happen, I’m gonna sell it,” Chisora told iFL TV.

“And guess what? It’s gonna be the best fight again in 2017.”

The 32-year-old defended his behaviour in the build-up to the clash, claiming it was justified in order to sell the pay-per-view card.

“If I come and shake Dillian’s hand and say ‘What’s up man, can’t wait to fight you’, then good luck selling the fight,” he explained.

“You need me mate, you need people like us.” — Daily Star
