PREMIERSHIP log leaders Chicken Inn kept their league and cup double dream alive at Nyamhunga yesterday. The Gamecocks, who fielded a second string side, triumphed on penalties after this NetOne Easycall Super 8 Cup quarter final had ended goalless.
During the penalty shootout striker Michelle Katsvairo, Brian Juru, Devine Lunga and second choice goalkeeper Pride Zendera were on target for the Gamecocks while defensive linkman Thabani Goredema’s effort was saved by ZPC Kariba’s Tendai “Fish” Hove.
For the hosts, talisman Raphael “Magetsi Adzoka” Manuvire, veteran Limited Chikafa and substitute Leonard Fiyado found the net while reigning Soccer Star of the Year Dennis Dauda and Russel Madamombe fluffed their efforts. With one eye on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas rested the likes of captain Danny Phiri, Clemence Matawu, Moses Jackson, Brian Mbiriri and top scorer Edmore Chirambadare. The veteran coach was happy with how his side went about business.
“Our game plan was to sit back and maybe catch them on the counter, in the end it went into the lottery and we won.“Yes, there is now talk of the double but we will take each game as it comes,” said Antipas.
ZPC Kariba coach Sunday Chidzambwa was disappointed with his charges and hinted on a possible engine overhaul.“I am not happy with the players, we will beef up during the off season and see what happens next season,” he said.
