ZIMBABWEAN opener Chamu Chibhabha says losing his wicket at 99 runs in an ODI against Pakistan on Friday was disappointing.
The 29-year-old right-handed batsman became the first Zimbabwean player to be out on this unfortunate score when wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed caught him off the bowling of Shoaib Malik at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Speaking exclusively by telephone from his breakfast table yesterday morning Chibhabha said: “When I returned to the dressing room, I was made aware of this dubious record.”
Interestingly, Chibhabha also had an inauspicious start of his ODI career as he made a duck on debut against New Zealand in 2005.
“Friday’s match where I scored 99 runs and could not convert those runs into a triple figure is more painful than my debut match,” he said.
“This is my first Pakistan tour and as an opener I had more responsibilities to build the innings. Nearing the magical figure and missing it by a solitary run obviously is more disappointing.
“My debut duck happened about 10 years ago and with the passage of time it was forgotten.”
