CHELSEY HUNTER may just be the future Olympian that the country is hunting for.

The 15-year-old is already making a name for herself in archery as well as waterpolo and has a detailed roadmap to the Olympics.

Hunter took her first steps towards the Olympics when she took part in archery nationals held at Harare Rifle Club.

“The goal is to win the Zimbabwe nationals and qualify for the All Africa Championships, which act as a qualifier for the Youth Olympics.

“It’s all about working hard and taking it one step at a time,” said Hunter, who has learnt the importance of paying attention to every detail.

“I write a lot of notes after every training session and refer to them before the next one because I need to know how I can improve,” she added.

Hunter took up archery in 2013 at the behest of her friend Jade Symonds.

“At first I was just out to enjoy myself but I got hooked,” she said.

She is also an award-winning waterpolo goalkeeper who has represented the country at several international competitions.

Hunter has been voted the best goalkeeper at the St Stithians tournament in South Africa for two years.

But which sport does Hunter love the most?

“The two sports are very different, waterpolo being a team sport and archery being an individual sport.

“However, archery does take my preference as I have a big goal to achieve,” said the starlet who also plays hockey.

Although she speaks about the Olympic dream with a lot of passion, Hunter also plans to tick the boxes on the academic side.

“Yes, I dream of becoming an Olympian but would also love to have a degree either in architecture or physiotherapy.

“I have all the support one can ever want and am confident of realising my dreams on both fronts.

“My family is supportive and they push me hard. My elder sister, Kayleigh, also plays keeper in waterpolo,” she said.
